This calendar chart shows the first planting dates to plant certain vegetables in the Clearwater area with our average Last Spring Frost date of May 24th. Please be aware that this is weather dependant.
March
1st week: Sow Cabbage, and Cauliflower indoors.
2nd week: Onions. Sow Peppers and Tomatoes indoors (or earlier if under grow lights).
3rd week: Sow Broccoli indoors.
4th week: Peas can be sown outdoors as soon as the snow melts.
April
1st week: Spinach. Sow Lettuce, Broccoli indoors.
2nd week: Beets and Potatoes. Sow Celery seeds indoors.
3rd week: Sow more Lettuce indoors.
4th week: Cabbage*, Cauliflower*, Radishes and Turnips.
*Cabbage, and Cauliflower can be sown indoors in the 1st week of March and then planted in the garden now.
May
1st week: Cucumbers, Squash and Melons can be sown indoors.
2nd week: Broccoli* and Lettuce*. Sow Pumpkins indoors.
3rd week: Carrots, Chard and Celery**.
*Broccoli and Lettuce can be sown indoors in the 1st week of April and then planted in the garden now.
**Celery can be sown indoors in the 2nd week of April and then planted in the garden now.
June
1st week: Green Beans, Sweet Corn, Cucumbers, Peppers, Tomatoes, Pumpkins, Squash and Melons.
Alternatively some other rules of thumb around Clearwater has been that the last frost is a few days after the full moon in May (or when the snow melts off Grizzly Mountain) and the first frost is around the full moon in September.
